Recap

A first run out of the season was in order for Kempston today as we travelled to Wellingborough OG’s. With lots of new players in the squad today, this game was all about communication, team building and a chance to play a game of rugby.
The first 20 minutes saw Kempston produce some good running rugby, despite being down to 14 men with new prop Andrew Meeks in the bin for 10 mins. Nonetheless, the lads worked hard to cover, but OG’s got a couple of lucky breaks and scored two tries. Kempston were looking for a response and we got it before the end of the first 20 mins with a piece of quick thinking from captain Tom Darlow, who darted through to make the score 12-5.
Back to a full compliment of 15, Kempston were looking to build on this momentum and the second Kempston try came courtesy of the new lads. Andrew burst through a couple of tackles, and when he was finally brought down, the ball was recycled quickly by scrum half David Cowl on his debut to Tristan Brown who scored his first for the club,
Sadly, as the game went on and with a pitch that was rock hard, injuries began to mount and we became disjointed and exhausted. A final score of 48-10 did not reflect in any way the effort, the heart and skill on display from Kempston today.
Forwards coach Richard Fairhead said “Lots of positives from today but lots to work on. Everyone put a massive shift in and there is lots to build on.”
